Second Stop of the Day……Golden Gate Bridge

Golden Gate Bridge Sign

Ok, so after we left the Japanese Tea Gardens we had to walk to our next bus stop to get to the Golden Gate Bridge (again, if you can, take the MUNI Metro not the MUNI buses, it will save you so much time), and as we left the Japanese Tea Gardens we took the wrong way and walked a bit before we (and by we, I mean my sister and I) realized we were going the wrong way and had to walk quite a ways back. So after a 30 min walk we got to the bus station we needed and had to wait an additional 30ish minutes for the bus to get there. So the bus finally came and we were on a bus that took us straight to the Golden Gate Bridge (Yay!). It took us about 20 minutes, maybe less, and we were dropped off right in the parking lot in front of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Golden Gate Bridge - San Francisco, CAThe first word I can think of to describe the Golden Gate Bridge is massive! It’s huge! (Yeah, I know it’s a bridge and suppose to be big, but still, it’s so much larger when you are in front of it). So we start walking to the bridge and when we get on the bridge I’m starting to get a little nervous…..I’m super afraid of heights, earthquakes and drowning…..and the only thoughts going through my head are….oh my God, there’s going to be an earthquake while I’m on the bridge and I’m going to plummet into the water and drown…..yeah, I’m a freak! So, back to the actual experience…..we start walking on the bridge and it’s packed with people and it SHAKES!!! I did not realize this…..as cars go by and the wind blows, the bridge shakes…..SCARY!!!…So, we walk across the bridge (only halfway because we still want to see a million things that day and halfway is like walking across the whole bridge one way, right?) and start heading back. On the way back I looked downGolden Gate Bridge Sidewalk and noticed that there were holes in the sidewalk and you could see all the way down; this is when I noticed that the sidewalk was only about 2-3 inches thick (I’m not kidding, check out the photo). I couldn’t believe so many people could be held up by a measly 2-3 inches.

I do have to say that the experience (aside from my neurotic thoughts) was incredible and I’m so thrilled I went. It’s one of the places that everyone has to go when they visit San Francisco. You can’t go to San Fran without stopping by the Golden Gate Bridge.
